Positive Behavioral Interventions & Support (PBIS)

PBIS AT CHAPARRAL

PBIS AT CHAPARRAL

Hello and welcome to Chaparral Elementary School's PBIS website! Our goal is to make this website a tool for helping you have a better understanding of PBIS, as well as a resources to help reinforce what we are teaching at school.
At Chaparral, champion students are expected to follow the 3 R's (our school-wide expectations):
  • RESPECTFUL
  • RESPONSIBLE
  • READY TO LEARN
Our behavior matrix (below) was developed to identify the positive behaviors expected of ALL Chaparral students in every school location. These expectations are then taught and modeled to every student each school year so they know exactly what it means to be a Champion!
These behavior expectations are reinforced daily in a variety of ways. Students may receive verbal praise along with a Champion ticket for demonstrating RESPECTFULRESPONSIBLE, and/or READY TO LEARN behaviors. Champion tickets can then be used by students at our student store for a variety of prizes and rewards!
As well as reinforcing positive behaviors, we also utilize a positive approach to discipline. When a consequence is given, it is used as a teaching opportunity. The consequences are related to the problem behavior and time is spent reinforcing our positive expectations and re-teaching skills through reflection, modeling and practice.

WHAT IS PBIS?

WHAT IS PBIS?

Positive Behavioral Interventions & Support is an implementation framework for maximizing the selection and use of evidence-based prevention and intervention practices along a multi-tiered continuum of support to enhance the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral competence of all students.

All students develop and learn social, emotional, and behavioral competence, supporting their academic engagement.

All educators develop positive, predictable, and safe environments that promote strong interpersonal relationships with students through teaching, modeling, and encouragement.
BENEFITS OF PBIS

BENEFITS OF PBIS

When students are taught and encouraged to use positive behaviors, school climates can become more POSITIVE, learning environments designated as SAFER, and student-educator relationships referred to as more TRUSTING and RESPECTFUL (PBIS, 2019).

PBIS provides CONSISTENCY throughout the school and across all staff members.
